Southern Baptist

You can become a Southern Baptist by joining a Southern Baptist church.  Typically receiving Jesus as your Savior and Lord, and experiencing believer’s baptism by immersion can accomplish church membership.  They believe that there is one God, and only one God.  They believe that God shows himself to us through the Holy trinity with is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  In their belief accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and believing that he died and was resurrected accomplish salvation.  Baptist views are similar to Catholicism, but there are some differences.  Catholics believe that you receive God’s grace through the church’s sacraments, but Baptist believes that you receive it through faith in Jesus Christ alone.  Another core difference in Catholicism and Baptism is that Baptist don’t believe you have to confess your sins to a priest.  Although there are some differences in the two beliefs, Southern Baptist still believe that Catholics will make it into heaven.  They believe that is faith in Jesus Christ that will save a person, not membership to a certain church or denomination.  Over a decade ago most pastors viewed New Orleans as a graveyard for Southern Baptist church building.  Since hurricane Katrina, New Orleans has had the largest percent of people move into it in the country.  At the founding convection in 1845, Sothern Baptist started their board of Domestic Missions in part to reach the city of New Orleans.  Despite the long presence of Southern Baptist in the area, New Orleans has only one Southern Baptist church for every 7,252 people.  That is four times higher than many state conventions in the South.  There are 140 different recognized Southern Baptist churches in New Orleans.
